As a follow-up to an Asia Express dated July 27, Taiwanese Vmax, a Tecom-Vibo joint venture, announced that it will forge a strategic alliance with Taiwanese Vastar for island-wide WiMAX service in Taiwan. The alliance plans to roll out WiMAX services by the end of the second quarter in 2008, with the number of subscribers projected to reach 10,000 per month. Vmax stated that the financial details of this tie-up will be finalized by September 2007.

Furthermore, Vmax also revealed a plan to set up a WiMAX industry association with the other five license winners, which, with the exception of Far EasTone, all have expressed interest in participation. Meanwhile, Global One is reported to be seeking partnership with Far EasTone, and Tatung with First International Telecom.
